Protect your data and confidential information
Every business produces confidential information regarding its employees, clients and assets. Protecting that information from falling into the wrong hands is not just a good business practice — it is the law.
Information theft is rarely dramatic. It is a file left in a recycling bin, a box in a storage unit nobody has opened in four years, a departing employee’s drawer. Once that material is outside your control it can be exploited criminally or used against you in civil proceedings — and the timely destruction of old information is what protects you from a demand to produce documents you no longer need to keep.
When in doubt, shred it
Shred everything that is no longer relevant to your business, and everything that has passed its retention period. Most business documents contain personal or private details that would be damaging in the wrong hands. Nothing needs to be sorted first — staples, paper clips, bindings, labels and stickers all go into the truck exactly as they are.
The four groups below cover almost everything our customers send to destruction. If something you hold is not on the list, call and ask — the answer is usually yes.
Client data
- Business plans and proposals
- Canceled checks and credit card numbers
- Product information and specifications
- Proprietary documents of any kind
Files and records
- Account records and bank statements
- Contracts and agreements
- Financial records and audits
- Personnel files and tax records
- X-rays and imaging
Personal information
- Names, addresses and dates of birth
- Bank account and routing information
- Social Security numbers
- Medical records and tax forms
Non-paper media
- Hard drives and computer back-ups
- CD-ROMs, tapes and microfiche
- Product samples and prototypes
- Branded clothing and uniforms
Retention periods are a floor, not a ceiling. Holding documents longer than the law requires only widens the window in which they can be stolen or subpoenaed.
What happens to the paper
Every sheet we destroy is baled and recycled, not land-filled with your normal waste. Documents and IT media are reduced by industrial-grade pulverizing shredders, and you receive a Certificate of Destruction after every service.
